TRIBUTE TO LATE JOHN FRANCIS TOMPKINS
 
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called John Francis Tompkins, an outstanding citizen and beloved friend, from this life to eternity, Sunday February 3, 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Timothy M. Cullerton, Alderman of the 38th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, John Francis Tompkins, the cherished husband of Yvonne (nee Bourassa) for 63 years; devoted father of Colleen (Jim Morse) Tompkins, Karen (Don) Olynyk, Susan (Rusty) Gilley, Mary (Mark) Davis, Jo Anne (Casey) Cartwright, Michael (Sue) Tompkins, and Kenneth (Ayse) Tompkins; loving grandfather of Jennifer, Shawn, John, Russell, Jill, Julie, Jamie, Jacquelyn, John, Michelle, Ryan, Mark, Christine, Kevin, Makenzie, Victoria, Sara and Megan; great grandfather of Grace, Madeline, Anna and Liam; dear brother of George (Ruth) Tompkins and Mary (Don) Muir; President Emeritus of New Horizon Center and Past-President of American Electric Construction Company, will be deeply missed. John Francis Tompkins was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Tompkins and brothers, Chuck Tompkins and Bob (Linda) Tompkins; and
 
WHEREAS, To his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, many friends and neighbors John Francis Tompkins imparts a legacy of love, faithfulness, service and dignity; and
 
WHEREAS, New Horizon Center is John Tompkins' legacy. John's other great love in life, besides his family, was his undying devotion to and unwavering commitment for the children and adults with severe developmental disabilities and autism at New Horizon Center. He persuaded the New Horizon Center's Board of Directors to work for the children and in the fall of 2006 a beautiful new, fully accessible facility for the children and adults of New Horizon Center opened its doors and will remain open for generations to come; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 13th day of February, 2013 A.D., do hereby commemorate John Francis Tompkins for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family and loved ones.
