WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow that the members of this Chamber learned of the transition to eternal peace for Mr. Marvin W. Burnett on Monday, September 28, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Walter Burnett, Jr., Alderman of the 27th Ward and nephew of the dearly departed; and
WHEREAS, Marvin W. Burnett was born on September 17, 1937, in Chicago, IL, the fourth of six children born to Charles and Ruth (Williams) Burnett; and
WHEREAS, Marvin was educated in the Chicago Public Schools and graduated from Du Sable High School; and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Marvin enlisted in the United States Navy, and following those years in service, Marvin worked for the U. S. Postal Service; and
WHEREAS, Marvin later pursued his dream of becoming a Hair Stylist, and being a "people person", this career suited his personality perfectly; and
WHEREAS, Marvin left hair styling after many years and returned to the U. S. Postal Service until retirement; and
WHEREAS, Marvin was united in marriage to Kirsten (Hawkins) Alley and to this union a son, Marques L. Burnett was born; and
WHEREAS, Marvin accepted Christ later in life and was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. He loved his church and was fond of its members which he often spoke of; and
WHEREAS, Marvin, a dapper dresser with gentlemanly qualities, was an active member of the 27th Ward Organization, often assisting Alderman Burnett with constituents on Ward Nights, and was fondly known to many as "Uncle Marvin"; and
WHEREAS, Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Louis, Donald and Walter, and his sister: Ileen; and
WHEREAS, Marvin, his outgoing personality, and the many slightly embellished stories he told, will be truly missed, he leaves to cherish his memory: a son, Marques L. Burnett; a brother, Milton (Keiko) Burnett; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor, and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled here this fourteenth day of October, 2015 do hereby commemorate Mr. Marvin W. Burnett for his many lifetime contributions an offer our sincerest condolences to his many family and friends; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mr. Marvin W. Burnett.
