RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes has announced his retirement as Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for Macy's Stores in the North Central and South Central regions; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes has provided counsel and advice to Macy's Inc. in the areas of government, civic and community relations; and

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes was promoted to this position from his previous role as Regional Vice President of Stores for Macy's Chicago which included overseeing its flagship State Street store; and

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes joined Marshall Field's in 1992 from Atlanta where he was Vice President and General Manager of Rich's Department Store; and

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes held Regional Manager positions with Marshall Field's stores in Texas, Ohio, Indiana, western Michigan and Chicago suburbs; and

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes led the State Street store during a period of rebuilding, repositioning and re-branding and during its transition to Macy's; and

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes served as Commissioner and former Chairman of the State Street Commission and has been on the Executive Committee of the Chicago Loop Alliance; and

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes was President of the Greater State Street Council before it became the Chicago Loop Alliance; and

 

WHEREAS, Ralph V. Hughes has also been a member of the Advisory Council for Harold Washington College and the President's Council of Chicago State University; and

 

WHEREAS, In addition to his many roles of responsibility, Ralph V. Hughes was a Trustee for the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago and was a member of the Corporate Advisory Board for DePaul University's Multicultural Marketing Program; and

 

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ralph V. Hughes serve as an example to all; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of March, 2016, do hereby congratulate Ralph V. Hughes on the occasion of his retirement and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued good health, happiness and prosperity; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ralph V. Hughes.
