TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF RUBY LEE BERRY
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called Ruby Lee Berry, outstanding citizen and member of her community, to her everlasting reward on Sunday September 21, 2014;and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of Sister Ruby Lee Berry's transition by the Honorable Toni Foulkes, Alderman ofthe 15th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born to her loving parents, Henry and Mary Taylor on July 4, 1936, Ruby was the child that brought joy and laughter into the Taylor Family home. Ruby accepted and rejoiced in God at an early age and her faith carried her through the trials and tribulations of live she eventually moved her membership to Park Manor Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and remained a dedicated and faithful member until her transition; and
WHEREAS, In 1957 Ruby met and captured the heart ofthe man who was to become her loving husband, John Berry. They were united in Holy Matrimony on September 4, 1958, and were blessed with the birth often children. Ruby and John were devoted Christians who loved the Lord and used their faith to guide them as they instilled the value of hard work and education in their children; and
WHEREAS, Ruby Lee Berry was deeply committed to her family, where at times served as surrogate mother to many neighborhood children. She was a constant source of love and support to her brothers and sister; and
WHEREAS, Left behind to cherish Ruby Lee Berry's memory and mourn her passing is her husband, John; eight children, John Jr. (Linda), Leroy (Gwendolyn), Mary Ann Hill (Eric), Eileen, Leon, Herbert, Michael and Amanda; siblings, Rebecca Waters, Ethel Clay (Howard), Henry Lee Taylor, Jr. (Mary), Neatter Brown and Wesley Taylor (Delores); eleven grandchildren, Mario, Michelle. Dion, Antwan, Shulonda, Leroy Jr., Rashida. Jeanette, Monique, Keonna and Keshonne; six greatgrandchildren, Danysia, Amariyah, Mathius, Malik, Desirae and Damani; best friend, Carrie Mae Seay and a host of other relatives, neighbors, church members and friends; and
WHEREAS, A cherished friend and good neighbor to all, Ruby Lee Berry will be deeply missed but the remembrance of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her, now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifth day of November 2014 A.D., do hereby express our heartfelt sadness at the loss of such a vital community member as Ruby Lee Berry, and extend our most sincere sympathy to her family and friends.
