RESOLUTION HONORING MARY SCHRAM ON HER 100 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that the City Council of the City of Chicago is hereby informed of the observance of Mary Schram's 100th Birthday on February 21, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Mary was born in New Britain, Connecticut on February 21, 1913. She and her mother, Katarzuna moved to Poland and lived in the village of Wiewiorka until she was eight and one half. In November 1921 Mary and her mother moved back to the United States and passed through Ellis Island. Around 1923, at the age of nearly 10, Mary and her widowed mother moved to Chicago and made it their home. Mary became the stepsister of John and Mary Cesarec after the marriage of her mother to Bartol Cesarec. Since there was now two girls in the home with the same name, she affectionately required the nick name "Big Mary" because she was the elder of the two; and
WHEREAS, Mary matured into a young woman with an abundance of grace, charm and intelligence and soon captured the heart of the young man who was to become her husband, the father of their three children, grandfather of two and great grandfather of two, Bernard Schram. The couple married on February 10, 1945 at St. John Cantius Church, and shared forty-five years of Wedded Bliss, a loving marriage which lasted until Our Lord called Bernard to his eternal rest on August 21, 1990; and
WHEREAS, Mary has been a vital and active member of St. John Cantius Church and St. Wenceslaus Church where she is a member of the Scout Mothers Auxiliary, the Rosary Sodality and the Queen Kinga Club; and
WHEREAS, A remarkable women, Mary Schram will celebrate this grand occasion with the many friends who have long benefited from her intelligence, fairness, and generosity; now, therefore,
WHEREAS, Devoted mother of Joseph (Darlyn), John (Ruth) and Mary Jane (Timothy), grandmother of Jeffrey and Julianne, great-grandmother of Bennett and Nathaniel, a cherished friend of many and good neighbor to all, Mary Schram richly deserves the warm and fond wishes of her many family members and friends as she marks her One Hundredth Birthday on February 21, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ray Suarez, Alderman of the 31st Ward-Vice-Mayor, has apprised this august body of the milestone observance of Mary Schram's centennial year; now therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council gathered here this 17th day of January, 2013 A.D, do hereby join in the general tribute to Mary Schram as she celebrates her Centennial Birthday in a life of great productivity and generosity, and we offer our very best wishes for future happiness and fulfillment.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Mary Schram.
