Whereas , The Members of this Chamber are proud to congratulate our friend and colleague. Alderman Rey Colon, on his twelve years of dedicated and outstanding service tp the people of the 35th Ward and the City of Chicago;

WHEREAS, A Chicago native, Alderman Colon grew up in the Logan Square neighborhood. After graduating from Carl Schurz High School, he earned

WHEREAS, When he was 17, Alderman Colon found his life changed forever when he lost his brother to a drive-by shooting. This tragic event inspired; Alderman Colon to devote his life to making his cqmmunity q better qnd sdfer place for people to live, and to creating opportunities for children qnd families;

 

 

WHEREAS, First elected qs Aldermqn qf the 35th Wqrd in 2003, Alderman Colon worked diligently to improve the Ward's neighborhoods by spearheading efforts to foster local business, to increase the level of city services, and to preserve the character of the qreq by supporting the creation of the Logan Squqre Bqulevdrds Lqndmqrk Preservqtion District; ond ,

 

WHEREAS, In ddditiqn to his long and'-distinguished career in public service, Alderman Colon worked as executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago, as area manager of the Chicqgo Pork District, qnd qs executive director of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicqgq. While Working with the YMCA, Alderman Colon roised $7.5 milliqn for the construction of the new McCprmick Tribune YMCA facility located in Lpgqn Squqre; qnd
