RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING KENNETH OGDEN ON PARTICIPATING IN THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS
WHEREAS, Kenneth Ogden, athlete and mentor in the 22nd Ward, participated on Team Illinois bocce, in the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Florida; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Michael D. Rodriguez, Alderman of the 22nd Ward; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth is 25 years old and is from the Archer Heights neighborhood; Kenneth began participating in Special Olympics in 2010, and has since attended the Spring Games competition annually; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, Kenneth joined the Special Recreation program at Vittum Park where he became a Vittum Viking; since joining the Chicago Park District, Kenneth has challenged himself in multiple ways and has excelled in multiple sports including pommel horse in gymnastics, pentathlon in track/field, golf, and skiing; and
WHEREAS, While Kenneth competes in many individual sports, he is also a wonderful team player; his Vittum Vikings basketball team won first place at regionals in 2021 and his Vikings soccer team won first place in April of 2022; Kenneth is a well-rounded athlete, leader, and mentor to other Vikings; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being an outstanding competitor and representative of Team Illinois, Kenneth volunteers his time ensuring Vittum Park remains beautiful; he leads groups in litter pick-ups and landscape maintenance for Earth Day, volunteers at surrounding schools, and has volunteered to help make food packages for the homeless at the Greater Chicago Food Depository; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth has and continues to serve as an excellent role-model for his Viking teammates, and residents ofthe City, and we congratulate him on his achievement of participating in the 2022 Special Olympics USA games; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-second day of June, 2022, do hereby congratulate Kenneth Ogden on his success, and wish him well on his future endeavors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy ofthis resolution be prepared and presented to Kenneth Ogden.
