RECOGNITION OF Fr. Eric Meyer, CP
Whereas, Fr. Eric Meyer, CP, a Passionist priest, has been the pastor of Immaculate Conception parish for the past 8 years, after serving as Associate Pastor for the preceding 18 years, and serving a parish consisting of more than 2,000 families for a total of 26 years, and;
Whereas, the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, a magnet for community involvement and a center for athletic, social and cultural events, was built under his leadership, and;
Whereas, under Fr. Eric's pastorship, the Immaculate Conception school earned the coveted Blue Ribbon of Excellence from the US Department of Education, one of only a select group nationwide to be so awarded, determined by ranking among the highest performing schools in the country as measured by nationally normed assessments, and;
Whereas, Fr. Eric has been the founder ofthe popular Bible Study group, which benefits from his encyclopedic knowledge of the Old and New Testaments, and he writes a weekly column for the IC Bulletin sharing his vast insights into the Bible, and;
Whereas, Fr. Eric Meyer was educated in Germany and brings his German work-ethic and ethos to everything he does, and;
Whereas, Fr. Eric has encouraged and augmented diversity and inclusion in his ministry, by taking part in annual inter-denominational Walks for Hunger and Stations of the Cross with neighboring religious institutions, and;
Whereas, the Norwood Park Home and Resurrection Hospital have benefited greatly from Fr. Eric's cheerful presence and infectious smile at the bedsides of their patients, and;
Whereas, all who know Fr. Eric find him a fearless leader, generous supporter, spirited and talented singer, and a good friend, and; therefore,
Be it resolved, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this June 5, 2013, do hereby express our gratitude to Fr. Eric Meyer for his years of service to the Immaculate Conception parish and the surrounding community, and;
Be it further resolved, that August 24, 2013 be commemorated as Father Eric Meyer Day in the City of Chicago, and;
Be it further resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Fr. Eric Meyer, CP.
