ORDINANCE DESIGNATING 4000 AND 4100 BLOCKS OF NORTH KOLMAR AS
HONORARY DONALD SANSONE WAY
WHEREAS, Donald Sansone was born July 26, 1948, and grew up at 4045 N. Kolmar; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sansone was known as outgoing and friendly, and had a large family and many friends; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sansone attended St. Edwards School and Schurz High School, and while at Schurz, Mr. Sansone played football and was named Lineman of the Year, and his name is still associated with the award; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sansone was called to serve his country and joined the United States Marnie Corps in May 1967, where he became a Lance Corporal and a member of H Company, 2nd Battalion, 5lh Marines, ldt Mardiv, III MAF; and
WHEREAS, at the age of 19, Mr. Sansone was killed by enemy fire in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam, on November 6, 1967; and
WHEREAS, for his heroic service, Mr. Sansone was awarded the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Military Merit Medal, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Sansone indicated to his fellow servicemen that he longed to return to his home at 4045 N. Kolmar; and
WHEREAS, a previous resolution honoring Mr. Sansone is attached to this ordinance; therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO;
SECTION 1. Pursuant to an ordinance heretofore passed by the City Council which allows erection of honorary street-name signs, the Commissioner of Transportation shall take the necessary action for standardization of 4000-4199 N. Kolmar as "Donald Sansone Way," with the location of one of the signs at 4045 N. Kolmar.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its passage and publication.

CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO DONALD SANSONE ON BEING HONORED BY MAYFAIR VETERANS COMMITTEE AND MAYFAIR LIONS CLUB FOR OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE
WHEREAS, Donald Sansone was born July 26, 1948, lives on Komar and attended St. Edwards grammar school and went on to the old DePaul High School and finally Schurz High school to finish his high school education. Donald had a brother Bob, who has passed away; and
WHEREAS, Donald was a very outgoing person, with many friends, a lot of laughs and a "sharp" Chevy to drive around in. As a part of a large Italian family he loved to eat -particularly spaghetti and pizza; and
WHEREAS, While attending Schurz High School, Donald excelled in football and was named "Lineman of the Year." This award is still given out each year, and his name is still associated with the award; and
WHEREAS, Donald felt called to serve his country and joined the Marines in May of 1967. His basic training was done in California as part of H Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Mardiv, III MAF; and
WHEREAS, Marine Lance Corporal Donald Sansone served his country and was killed in Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam. He was a casualty of hostile fire at the age of 19; and
WHEREAS, For his heroic service, Donald Sansone was awarded the Purple heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, Vietnam Merit Medal, and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm; now therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council, gathered here this ninth day of November, 2011, do hereby thank the late Donald Sansone and his family for his service, heroism and sacrifice; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Sansone family.
