TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF ROSALIE BROWNE BARNES
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called Rosalie Browne Barnes, an outstanding citizen and member of the community, to her eternal reward, June 10, 2015; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been notified of the passing of Rosalie Browne Barnes by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8lh Ward and Chairman of the Committee on Committees, Rules and Ethics; and
WHEREAS, Born June 23, 1922, in our great city of Chicago, Rosalie Browne was the loving daughter born to the union of Lambert Wellington Browne and Lalla Vivian Browne. Rosalie, the youngest, along with her brother Leon brought laughter and joy into the Browne Family home; and
WHEREAS, Rosalie Browne Barnes received her education through the Chicago Public School System, She graduated from Englewood High School and Chicago State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Rosalie was a member of Zeta Phi Beta, Sorority Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, Symbolic of the strength and solidity of family life, Rosalie Browne and Nickolas Barnes, Sr. were united in Holy Matrimony in 1953. Nickolas Barnes, Sr. was a member of the Foreign Service therefore, Rosalie had an opportunity to live and work abroad during the 1950's, calling several places such as Turkey and Vietnam home, while she taught in an American school; and
WHEREAS, Rosalie Browne Barnes was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and neighbor who enriched the lives of the young and the old. She will be deeply missed but the memory of her character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; and
WHEREAS, Her son, Walter "Buddha" Barnes and grandson, Nickolas L. Barnes III, having preceded her in death, Rosalie Browne Barnes leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory her loving sons, Nick L. Barnes (Rossalind) and Lambert W. Barnes (Alecia); her grandchildren, Nikiah B. Barnes, Ashley J. Barnes, Lambert W. Barnes II, Roosevelt V. Barnes, and Rosalieah R. Barnes; her great grandchildren, Nia Cooksey, Jayden Barnes and Elijah Tomas; her sisters-in-law, Willa Belle Barnes Speller and Rebecca Barnes (Larry) and a host of other relatives and many friends; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this seventeenth day of June 2015 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Rosalie Browne Barnes and extend to her family and friends our sincere condolences.
