RESOLUTION HONORING NADIG NEWS 75tn ANNIVERSARY
 
WHEREAS, the Chicago Northwest Side Press was first published on May 1, 1940, and celebrates 75 years of publication this year; and
 
WHEREAS, this esteemed body has been notified of this occasion by the Honorable John Arena, Alderman of the 45th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Publisher Glenn Nadig, a graduate of Steinmetz High School, has been operating the newspapers for 58 years, and his wife Bette served as co-publisher until her passing in 1995; and
 
WHEREAS, the Nadig family takes great pride in their publication, with son Brian following in the footsteps of his father, publishing his first article in 1995 and now working as co-operator of the family business with his father; and
 
WHEREAS, "Chicago's Northwest Side Press" covers Jefferson Park, Gladstone Park, Norwood Park, Portage Park, Mayfair, and other communities, and "The Reporter" covers Edgebrook, Sauganash, Wildwood and Lincolnwood, first published fifty years ago on May 3, 1965; and
 
WHEREAS, the publication prides itself on highlighting local events and covers an extensive variety of interests across a variety of news areas, such as politics, crime, neighborhood and school events, and zoning issues; and
 
WHEREAS, the advertisements in the Nadig Newspapers often belong to businesses on the northwest side, communicating directly with patrons and prospective customers with ad space for the promotion of local businesses; and
 
WHEREAS, Nadig Newspapers has given back extensively to the community, belonging to over a dozen local business and historical organizations, embracing civic responsibility and community involvement beyond the day-to-day operations of running a local newspaper; and
 
WHEREAS, Glenn, Bette and Brian have each served as president of the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce, overseeing community events and scholarship committees, and have employed over 5,000 neighborhood children as newspaper carriers; and
 
WHEREAS, with thousands of loyal readers and advertisers, the close community of Chicago's northwest side continues to provide Nadig News with readership and interest, truly demonstrating the Nadig Newpaper's longstanding importance in an ever-changing world of news readership; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of Chicago, assembled the eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby congratulate
 
 
Nadig Newspapers and the Nadig family for 75 years of successful publication and extend our best wises for continued success; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the staff and leadership of Nadig Newspapers.
