RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Shinnick's Pub is celebrating their 80th Anniversary on the twentieth of October, two-thousand and eighteen; and

 

WHEREAS, The Mayor and City Council have been informed of this milestone by the Honorable Patrick D. Thompson, Alderman of the 11 Ward; and

 

WHEREAS; The building that now is Shinnick's Pub was constructed in the late 1880's. The ornate mahogany Brunswick-Balke-Collender back bar was built on-site at the same time; and

 

WHEREAS; George W. Shinnick Sr. and Mary Healy Shinnick took over the bar on the corner of 38th and Union after prohibition in 1938-1965. They called it The Unique Club; and

 

WHEREAS; Their children, Shirley (Connors), George W. Jr., Donald, and Robert, assisted their parents in their labors throughout the years; and

 

WHEREAS; George W. Shinnick Jr. and Celine Dougherty Shinnick purchased the bar at 3758 S. Union in 1965. Henceforth, the bar was known as Shinnick's Tavern; and

 

WHEREAS, George and Celine, proprietors, created a welcoming atmosphere for their Bridgeport neighbors while raising their family of nine children; and

 

WHEREAS; Their nine children, Thomas, Nadine, Terry, Tim, Celine, George III, Mike (Duke), Kathy, and Joanne would eventually become the third generation of Shinnicks behind the bar; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Almighty God called Celine Dougherty Shinnick, wife, mother, heart of our family, from our midst on the sixth of July, nineteen hundred eighty-eight. After which George W. Shinnick Jr. established Shinnick's Pub to be owned and operated by their nine children! and

 

WHEREAS, the Grandchildren of Celine and George became the fourth generation of Shinnicks behind the bar; and

 

WHEREAS; The Shinnick Family is thankful to their patrons for their friendship and support for the last 80 Years! Slainte!; and; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago gathered here his thirty-first day of October 2018, do hereby extend our heartiest congratulations to Thomas, Nadine, Terry, Tim, Celine, George III, Mike (Duke), Kathy, and Joanne on Shinnick's Pub 80th Anniversary as one of Chicago's most quintessential corner pub and express every good wish for its continued success in the years to come; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies be presented to the Shinnick Family.
