TRIBUTE TO THE LIFE OF MOTHER MARY P. ELLIS
 
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, has called Mother Mary P. Ellis, an outstanding citizen and member of her community, to her everlasting reward, Monday, December 10, 2012;and
 
WHEREASS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Chairman of Budget and Government Operations and Alderman of the 34th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Mother Mary P. Ellis was born in Anniston, Alabama but she was raised in Chicago. She loved to sing and was a vital member of the Thompson Community Singers. Mary was the lead singer of this famed choir and that is where she met the love of her life, William Anthony Ellis; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary, a mature woman filled with an abundance of patience, intelligence and charm captured William Anthony Ellis's heart and became his loving wife on June 29, 1963. Mary and William spent over 49 years of wedded bliss; and
 
WHEREAS, Mother Mary P. Ellis was the loving mother of four sons and devoted grandmother of seven. She was the godmother to over fifty sons and daughters, and the spiritual mother to countless covenant children. As a Kingdom covenant mother, loving person, nurturer, mentor, and friend to many, Mother Mary P. Ellis will be deeply missed; and
 
WHEREAS, The vacancy left by Mother Mary P. Ellis, within the lives of her family and friends will be filled with the warm memory of her devotion to their well being and the love she illuminated in their hearts. Her strong guidance, gentle kindness and endless generosity will serve as an inspiration and comfort to all who knew and loved her; and
 
WHEREAS, During her lifetime, Mother Ellis reached out and touched the lives of many in countless ways. She leaves to celebrate her accomplishments, and cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband, Bishop William A. Ellis; four sons, Isaac Devaughn, Suffragan Bishop Jonathan David, Michael Anthony and William Anthony, "Pastor Bill" (Kellen); seven grandchildren, Joshua, Iman, Nicole, Allyson, Devaughn, Jeylon, and Eden; a goddaughter, Patrice Cooper, many nieces, nephews, friends, and all those that she extended her love and compassion to; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled here this 17th day of January, 2013, do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Mother Mary P. Ellis and extend to her family and friends our sincere condolences.
 
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Mother Mary P. Ellis.
