City Council Meeting July 28, 2011
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, After 32 years of service with the City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation, Matt Bauler retired at the end of June; and
WHEREAS, Mathias Patrick Bauler was born in Chicago on January 17, 1952, to Virginia McShea and Harry Bauler, and is the grandson of Alderman Mathias "Paddy" Bauler who is his namesake; and
WHEREAS, Matt was the fourth of five children and the only boy, his sisters being Patty, Mary, Ginger and Sara (deceased); and
WHEREAS, Matt's father, who was General Superintendent for the Bureau of Sanitation in addition to being the 43rd Ward Superintendent and a State Representative, passed away when Matt was ten years old, leaving his mother to raise their family which she did with great love and devotion until her death in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Matt attended Immaculate Conception grade school and later attended DePaul Academy until it closed and completed his high school education at Gordon Tech; and
WHEREAS, During Matt's high school years he developed his love of basketball, playing in city leagues for several years and eventually receiving a scholarship to Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona and it was here that he met his future wife, Lynn Foster; and
WHEREAS, Matt continued his college education and basketball career at Chapman College in Orange, California where he earned his degree in political science; and
WHEREAS, Matt married his college sweetheart in March of 1987 and they've raised two wonderful sons, Mathias and Daniel;
WHEREAS, During his college years Matt spent several summers working for the Chicago Park District and after his college graduation, he returned to the city he loves and began his career with the Department of Streets and Sanitation on May 1, 1979, as a laborer in the 40th Ward where he remained his entire career; and
WHEREAS, Matt was known by his colleagues as being an extremely hard worker, took pride in what he did, and will be missed by all who knew him; now, therefore,
BE IT. RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor of the City of Chicago and members of the City Council, gathered in a meeting this 28th day of July, 2011, A.D., do hereby extend our sincere appreciation for his years of service to our City and offer our congratulations and best wishes to Matt Bauler and his family as he enjoys retirement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitabJ^M^j^^i^resolution be prepared for presentation to Matt Bauler. j^^JT J ^
