Resolution Honoring Anthony A. Nichols

WHEREAS, Anthony A. Nichols is President and CEO of Central Savings in Chicago, a financial institution that has served the Lakeview and Lincoln Park communities for nearly 125 years; and

WHEREAS, During his distinguished 45-year career in banking, Mr. Nichols has been an exceptional underwriter of human capital, investing much of his time to numerous church, charitable, and community organizations; and

WHEREAS, A long-time supporter of the Chicago Bible Society, Mr. Nichols has served as a trustee of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Chicago, as President of Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, and as a founder of the Greek orthodox Archdiocese of America website. In 1991, his work for his faith resulted in the Ecumenical Patriarchate conferring upon him the revered title of Archon, Order of St. Andrew Apostle; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nichols has been a director of the Religious of the Sacred Heart, on the Advisory Board of the Academy of the Sacred Hears; President of Saint Joseph Hospital Associates Boards; Vice President of the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation; and on the board of the Greater Chicago Broadcast Ministries; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Nichols' commitment to service extends to the community where he has worked on the boards ofthe Broadway Development Committee; the 19th Police District Steering Committee; the Lake View Chamber of Commerce; and as President ofthe Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce. He was Chairman ofthe Lake View Development corporation, which coordinated the renewal of the Lincoln-Belmont-Ashland Business Area; and

WHEREAS, In 2006, Mr. Nicols was among a select group of bankers to be singled out for recognition by the United'Hellenic-Amercian Congress. In 1998, he was the first non-attorney ever to be honored by the Hellenic Bar Association; and, now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe Chicago City Council, gathered here on this twenty second day of June, 2016, do hereby congratulate Anthony A. Nichols on his retirement and extend our best wishes for continuing success and fulfillment; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Anthony A. Nichols and family members as a token of our gratitude and respect.
