MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Marcus Anthony Ward, most beloved citizen to his eternal reward, January 9, 2015; and
 
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Deborah L. Graham, Alderman of the 29th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Born on October 3, 1956 to Lula and Fred Ward in Chicago, IL, Marcus was the third child born to their union. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Pete Ward; and his father, Fred Ward; and
WHEREAS, Marcus received his early education at Bryant Elementary school. He attended Austin High School; and received his diploma. Marcus accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of New Birth Christian Center in Oak Park, IL; and
WHEREAS, Marcus was self-employed. He learned many carpentry skills on his own. He was a handy man and worked in various occupations. Marcus was the proud father of four children, Antione, Zandra, Jamar and Marquis. He was known to many as "Smirk" and had a kind spirit. He was always happy and he liked to help others by making himself available, even when called upon last minute; and
WHEREAS, Marcus leaves to cherish his memories: His mother, Lula Ward, children, Antione Griffin, Zandra Griffin, Jamar Griffin, and Marquis Griffin, all of Chicago, IL; Grandchildren, Brittany, Brandy, Brandon, Antione, DeAngelo, Jamari, Jaden and Maryah: Great grandchild, Brice; two brothers, Ronnie and Craig Ward of Chicago, IL; three aunts, Louis Laws and Thelma Bridges of Chicago, IL and Estella Walker of Memphis, TN; one uncle, Mims Walker of Clarksdale, MS; two God sisters, Carla Crayton and Carol Foster; A very special and dear cousin, Ashley Laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; and
WHEREAS, A cherished friend and supportive family member to all, Marcus Anthony Ward will be deeply missed but the remembrance of his character, skill and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighteenth day of March, 2015 A.D., do hereby commemorate Marcus Anthony Ward for his many lifetime contributions and do hereby extend to his family and many friends our sincere condolences.
 
Be It Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Marcus Anthony Ward.
