TRIBUTE TO CORA LEE CARTER
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted Cora Lee Carter life into eternity on November 2, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Cora Lee Carter was born September 18, 1930 to her beloved parents Alberta and Lewis Burton in Rena Lara, Mississippi. To this union three children were born, Samuel and Mary Burton preceded her in death. Cora Lee Carter was known as "Madea" by her family as well as friends. Her favorite song was "When the Gates Swing Open'* and her favorite prayer was "The Lord's Prayer" (Matthew 6:9) Cora Lee Carter confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Morning Star Baptist Church in Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, Cora Lee Carter met and married Jessie James Carter in 1949 and to that union three children were born. She moved to Chicago in 1953 and joined new Mt. Zion under leader Rev. William Hudson. In 1982, she became a member of Love and Faith MB Church where she remained a faithful member until her health failed her; and
WHEREAS, Cora Lee Carter was a member of the Eastern Stars and help many offices such as Grand Matron of Mary Chapter 20, Heroines of Jericho, Daughters of Sphinx and Amaranth Court. Her grandchildren treasured and loved her dearly; and
WHEREAS, Cora Lee Carter leaves to cherish her memories 3 daughters, Florine Morgan, Benice Carter, and Ora Carter. 4 grandchildren, Lynn, Nina and Janeen. 10 great grandchildren, Latoya, Ivan Jr., Victoria, Sequila, Cheyenne, Torrean, Tonique, Tamara, Tia, and Mariah. 3 great-great grandchildren, Aarihanna, Larry III, and Ivan 111; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of the of Cora Lee Carter by the Honorable Jason C. Ervin, Alderman of the 28th Ward; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled on this 9lh Day of February, 2011 AD, do hereby express our sincere sorrow at the passing of Cora Lee Carter and extend our deepest condolences to her family and all those whose lives she touched.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Cora Lee Carter.
