Title: Tribute to late Barbara Nell Jones Strong

WHEREAS, On Friday, August 23, 2013, the Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called Barbara Nell Jones Strong to her eternal journey; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Lona Lane, Alderman of the 18th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Barbara was baptized at an early age at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Alabama. She graduated with honors from Snow Hill Institute High School in 1962, and Alabama Lutheran Academy and College in Selma, Alabama in 1964. Barbara received her B.S. Degree from Concordia Teachers College, in Seward, Nebraska in 1966; and
 
WHEREAS, Barbara dedicated her life to education in the Christian Day Schools of the Lutheran Church, in Missouri Synod. Early in her professional career, Barbara served as a dormitory counselor at Alabama Lutheran Academy and College in Selma, Alabama and taught Christian Day School in Mobile, Alabama. She was a Teacher/Principal for more than 35 years at St. Paul and Timothy Lutheran School in Chicago, Illinois. Barbara took great pride in the number of lives she touched and shaped during her professional career. She was a pillar of strength in life and as she transitioned into death; and
 
WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Clyde Strong; parents, Henry Lee and Jinsey Lee Jones; grandparents, Aaron and Mary Jones and Moless and Maderia Ramsey; siblings, Reverend Oscar F. Jones, Esther J. Harris, and Percy W. Jones; nephews, Alvin (Sonya) Bridges and Cedric McBride; and leaves behind to cherish her memory her siblings, Paul (Carolyn) Jones, Mary (George) Wise, Warner (Jemmie) Jones, Moless (Mary) Jones, Posey (Pretical) Jones, David Jones and Henry Jones; Other In-laws, Ollie Harris and Pearlie Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; now, therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this fifteenth day of January 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Barbara Nell Jones Strong and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Barbara Nell Jones Strong.
