RESOLUTION HONORING WILLIAM JOHNSON ON HIS 80th BIRTHDAY

 

 

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that the City Council of the City of Chicago is hereby informed of the observance of William Johnson's eightieth birthday; and

 

WHEREAS, William Johnson will be 80 years young on July 31, 2015, thereby reaching a milestone few are fortunate to achieve. Many friends and family are gathering to pay tribute to William Johnson, an enthusiastic, active and much-loved resident of Chicago's great 8th Ward community, August 7, 2015 at the Harborside Golf Center; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. William Johnson served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1953 thru 1957. He was an avid boxer who won many championships. Throughout his fruitful life William held various jobs earning the respect and friendship of many. He was employed as a bus driver with the Chicago Transit Authority from 1958 until 1962. In 1962 he joined "Chicago's Finest" and retired as a Sergeant after 25 years of dedicated service to the citizens of this great city of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, William was a member of the Metropolitan Official Association and the Central Official Association and coached volleyball, baseball, basketball and football. In 1996 he was inducted into the Chicago Public League Coaches Hall of Fame, in 1998 he was elected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame and in 2000 he was inducted into the Jackson Tennessee Madison County Sports Hall of Fame; and

 

WHEREAS, William and Margaret were united in marriage and have shared 52 years of Wedded Bliss with their four children, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and

 

WHEREAS, William Johnson is a remarkable person who has devoted his time and energies to his family, friends and neighbors. A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, cherished friend of many and a good neighbor to all, William Johnson richly deserves the warm and fond wishes from his many family members, friends and associates as he marks his 80th Birthday on July 31, 2015; now, therefore,

 

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 29th day of July 2015 A.D., do hereby extend to Mr. William Johnson our best and happiest wishes upon the occasion of his eightieth birthday.
