RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Interest in the martial arts, especially Taekwondo and Hapkido, is at an all-time high, Woori Taekwondo and Hapkido Academy, one of the city's premier martial arts schools, strives for excellence in the martial arts and in every aspect of life; and
WHEREAS, In addition to teaching martial arts, leaders from the Woori Taekwondo and Hapkido Academy also stress the importance of community and philanthropy; and
WHEREAS, On November 14, 2015, residents of the Chicago area will have the unique opportunity to witness the combination of philanthropy and martial arts when the Woori Taekwondo and Hapkido Academy will host A Kick for the Cure, a special testing event and fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children Research Hospital; and
WHEREAS, The event will include a presentation by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, in addition to special performances by three demonstration teams of all ages, the Jesse White Tumblers and the Korean Traditional Band; and
WHEREAS, The afternoon also features student low belt and black belt testing and Black Belt Testing for Woori Masters, Grand Master Kwan Pil Kim, 6th Degree in Hapkido; Master Hyo Min Lee, 5th Degree in Taekwondo; and Master Asad Umrani, 4th Degree in Hapkido; and
WHEREAS, In addition to raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, this event will promote greater understanding and appreciation of the sports of Taekwondo and Hapkido among the citizens of Chicago; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the Chicago City Council, gathered here this eighteenth day of November, 2015, do hereby congratulate the sponsors, instructors and students of Woori Taekwondo and Hapkido Academy and urge all citizens to become cognizant of their A Kick for the Cure annual fundraising efforts; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the Woori Taekwondo and Hapkido Academy as a symbol of our gratitude for their philanthropic activities.
