WHEREAS, Deborah Sobol made passionate contributions to music, the arts and education in Chicago over the past four decades; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Sobol served as an ambassador of culture in Chicago, making it available and meaningful to Chicagoans of all walks of life; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Sobol shared tremendous talent and training with Chicago's arts community having graduated magna cum laude from Srnith College, received her Diplom in Klavier Konzertfach from Hochschule fuer Musik in Vienna and her pedagogy degree at London's Royal College of Music; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Sobol embodied the Citizen Musician movement, building community by bringing together audiences, performers and organizations; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Sobol co-founded and led the Chicago Chamber Musicians for more than 20 years; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Sobol brought to life the idea of "great music for busy lives" through the innovative Rush Hour Concerts; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Sobol was the driving force behind the participatory performance event Make Music Chicago; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Sobol shared her gifts through education as Principal of Studio 1301, as a member ofthe Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University faculty, and as a cherished member ofthe Rogers Park community; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. Sobol passed away suddenly and left behind countless musicians, artists and friends inspired by her life and work; and
 
WHEREAS, Deborah Sobol will be deeply missed, but her memory, organizations and approach to the role pf art in building community will live on; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifth day of February 2014 A.D., do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Deborah Sobol and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Deborah Sobol.
