"Honoring Mrs. Mar da Shannon-Jones"
WHEREAS, On Saturday, April 2, 2016 we will proudly celebrate Mrs. Marcia Shannon-Jones for her rich history, deep roots, commitment to community and the many God given gifts that she has poured out to the betterment of others; we pause to take a moment to reflect on her life and its vastness and fullness, and;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Marcia Shannon-Jones was born the middle child of three right here on the west side of Chicago. She attended Charles Richard Drew Grammar School, Resurrection Lutheran Grammar School, John Marshall Harlan High School and Illinois State University where she majored in Industrial Economics and specialized in clothing, textiles and retail. She parlayed her love for fashion design into a lucrative career that allowed her to serve as a senior buyer and representatives for major corporations, and;
WHEREAS, In addition to her love for fashion design, Mrs. Marcia Shannon-Jones also loves teaching and dancing. At the age of eleven she took up Modern Dance and Afro-Cuban dance classes. As an adult she taught "jazzercise" at Olive Harvey College for thirteen years and taught Children's Dance and Theatre at Chicago State University for five years. At a very young age she was the lead singer of a group and danced in a major dance production. She served as President of the Modern Dance Club in High School and while in college she sang, choreographed and danced as part of the university's touring group and;
WHEREAS, Mrs. Marcia Shannon-Jones married her husband of thirty-five years in 1980, Mr. Kirkland Jones, designed and made her own wedding gown, and in 1984 they began raising their three daughters, and;
WHEREAS, Upon the passing of her dad she continued her family legacy at Crown Insurance, Crown Tax Service and Tax Service @ Crown. She has worked as a realtor and a real estate appraiser. She has worked for her family business for over 20 years as an insurance producer, notary, tax preparation specialist and ERO, and;
WHEREAS, Although she gave up dancing she fulfills her need to sing as a member of the sanctuary choir of Trinity United Church of Christ and fulfills her creative passion as a member of the Chicago Sisterhood Book Club and an interior home designer, and;
WHEREAS, A host of family, friends, parishioners, community residents and partners are excited to celebrate her and the wonderful and fulfilled life she has been blessed to live;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT we the Mayor and members of the City of Council of the City of Chicago, do gather to celebrate and congratulate Mrs. Marcia Shannon-Jones' on the beautiful years of life, liberty and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution will be prepared and presented to Mrs. Marcia Shannon-Jones and her family.
