MEMORIAL RESOLUTION CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF JESSIE MAE MANUEL
WHEREAS, On Sunday, August 31, 2014, Jessie Mae Manuel, outstanding citizen and beloved friend had been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, Born March 17, 1918 in Birmingham, Alabama Jessie Mae was born to her loving parents John and Mattie Tucker. She was the third of five children that blessed the Tucker Family and who together with her siblings brought laughter into their home. Jessie attended and received her formative education through the Birmingham, Alabama Public School system and graduated from Hooper City High School; and
WHEREAS, In 1928, at the young age often years old Jessie confessed her hope in Christ and was baptized. She was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama where she participated joyously with the congregation. Jessie remained a faithful servant of Mount Olive Baptist Church until 1942 and them moved her membership because she was relocating to Chicago, Illinois; and
WHEREAS,' In 1946, Jessie Mae began working for the Shurc Brothers Incorporate. She retired in 1986 after thirty-six years of stellar service. During her tenure at Shure Brothers Incorporate, Jessie attended and graduated from Lydia's Beauty School. She received her license in June 1957 and continued working as a beautician until her retirement in 1996; and
WHEREAS, Symbolic of the strength and solidity of family life, Jessie and Rev. John Henry Manuel were united in Holy Matrimony on February 8, 1950. That same year Jessie united herself with the Free Will Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her late husband, the Reverend John Henry Manuel; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Toni Foulkes, Alderman ofthe 15th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother, having preceded her in death, Jessie Mae Manuel leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life her daughter, Ms. Cynthia L. Richardson; her step-daughter, Liz Garrets; two grandchildren, Damian Richardson (Thyra Vining), and Demitrius Richardson; two great grandchildren, Dante Richardson and Dakoda Richardson; her sister, Emma Powers and one brother-in-law, Welton Murphy, Sr.; two very special friends, Mrs. Wilhelmina Hawkins and Mrs. Goldie Cheatham and a host of other relatives and many friends; and l
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of jtlie City,., of Chicago, gathered here this fifth day of November, 2014 A.D., dp' ^hereby - ' commemorate Jessie Mae Manuel for her grace-filled life and do hereby join her joved . ones in celebrating the life of this wonderful woman and outstanding citizen.
