RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with mixed emotions that we congratulate William Kenan on the occasion of his retirement from the City of Chicago on August 31, 2020, after serving the people of Chicago for nearly twenty-three years; and
WHEREAS, While we are happy for Bill as he embarks on a new, well-deserved adventure, we will greatly miss his significant skills and invaluable contributions to the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Before joining the City, Mr. Kenan attended Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, where he received a Master of Business Administration degree; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kenan began his career with the City in November of 1997, serving as Deputy Director in the Citation and Administration Division ofthe Department of Finance; and
WHEREAS, In July of 2012, Mr.Kenan transitioned tothe role of Deputy Director of Street Operations, where he remained until his retirement; and
WHEREAS, Managing the staff in the Permits, Parking Enforcement and Booting units, Mr. Kenan worked to ensure public safety by monitoring the issuance of parking tickets to individuals that violate the Municipal Code and by responding to the needs and concerns of Chicago residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, During his distinguished service to the City, Mr. Kenan developed strong relationships with the various communities that comprise Chicago and their leaders, often assisting aldermen with issues of enforcement in the wards; and
WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Mr. Kenan guided his staff through countless storms, blizzards, and heat waves, encouraging and inspiring all who encountered him with his optimism and determination; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kenan looks forward to enjoying his retirement and exploring the next chapter of his life; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, assembled this ninth day of September, 2020, do hereby congratulate Bill Kenan on the occasion of his retirement from the Department of Finance and recognize his many years of leadership and service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bill Kenan as a sign of our esteem and good wishes.
