Mayor Lightfoot:

It has been an honor to represent the residents of the 12th Ward for the past 20 years. In order to provide your administration with the opportunity to conduct a thorough search for my replacement, I am announcing that 1 will be resigning as Alderman, effective November 30,2022.

When I first ran for office, communities in the 12th Ward faced immense challenges and lacked fundamental resources. As Alderman, I maintained a laser-like focus on the real issues affecting my constituents. My staff and I have worked diligently to be efficient, responsive, and accountable. We developed solutions through policy aimed at improving community health and quality of life. We rebuilt infrastructure in every corner of the 12th Ward and increased economic development and employment opportunities. We built new schools such as Back of the Yards High School, and Calmeca Academy, a dual language arts School in Brighton Park. In Little Village, we built a beautiful park and a library. We secured millions for school renovations, new playgrounds, and turf fields. These are some but not all of the accomplishments we worked relentlessly for on behalf of working families. 1 am also leaving many more projects and initiatives in the pipeline that will provide social and economic opportunities and benefits for years to come.

I have had the privilege of working to uplift the communities of the 12th Ward, and I am proud ofthe legacy this work leaves behind. I am confident that the work has changed the lives of residents in the 12th Ward for the better. It is my hope that my successor builds on these efforts and is a leader who is not afraid to make tough decisions to keep our communities healthy and safe.

I wish you, your staff, and my City Council colleagues the best of luck and success as you continue to build a brighter and more prosperous future for all Chicagoans. My love for this city is unparalleled, and no matter "wriereifrjuourney takes me, I will continue to fight for it every step of the way.

Sincerely, \ George A. dirdenas *

Alderman, 12th Ward
