WHEREAS, Shirley Deer, nee Calyen, was born August 4, 1947; and
WHEREAS, On September 2, 1967, she married Herman Deer; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Deer has three sons, Reginald Deer, Dennis Deer and Darryl Deer;
and
WHEREAS, Shirley Deer was a longtime resident of the Lawndale community and a beloved mother, wife, sister and friend to many; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Deer tirelessly served the Lawndale community and many other civil organizations; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Deer passed away on June 22, 1995, at the age of 47; and
WHEREAS, August 4, 2022, would have been Shirley Deer's 75th birthday; and
WHEREAS, An honorary sign for Shirley Deer is a fitting tribute to her life and the impact she made on her family and her community; now, therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to Section 2-8-040 of the Municipal Code of Chicago, the Commissioner of Transportation shall take the necessary action for standardization of West Grenshaw Street, from South Central Park Avenue to South Homan Avenue (3400 to 3558 West Grenshaw Street) as "Shirley Deer Way".

Shirley left this place to go home and live with God onThursday, June 22, J995. She was bom n August 4, 1947 to Richard and Roberta Calyen She was the eldest of four children born to this union. Shirley confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Mt. Hebron M.B.C. and later became a member of St. Timothy House of Prayer
On September 2, 1967, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Herman Deer. To this union three sons were born. Shirley was a tireless worker in the church, the community and at Lawndale Com-munity, where she was employed in addition to many other civic organizations. But mainly she was a hardworking, devoted loving Christian woman.
She leaves to cherish her precious^ memories: A husband, Herman Roberta Calyen; three sons, ReplS nis Deer and Darryl Deer; tw^pff Frencher and Clementine Harda3§l| brother, Anthony Calyen; one sisfl cia Calyen, one brother-in-lavy^ Sanders and many aunts, uncles|^ cousins and friends.
