RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lane Evans has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 63; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lane Evans served for twelve terms as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Illinois' 17th District; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Rock Island, the Honorable Lane Evans was the son of a firefighter and a nurse and identified with struggling, working-class Americans throughout his life in public service; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lane Evans joined the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was based stateside and in Japan; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lane Evans graduated from Augustana College and Georgetown University Law School before becoming a legal aid lawyer; and
 
WHEREAS, A founding member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the Honorable Lane Evans was elected to Congress in 1983 and served until 2007; and
 
WHEREAS, During his long and highly esteemed tenure, the Honorable Lane Evans earned a reputation for providing excellent constituent services; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lane Evans presided over a district with many Vietnam veterans and he fought to win compensation for veterans exposed to Agent Orange and to save the Rock Island Arsenal; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Lane Evans serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Lane Evans to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Lane Evans will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Lane Evans imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twelfth day of November, 2014, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Lane Evans for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Lane Evans.
