RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 76; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone was a veteran Chicago newspaperman and the husband of Joan, nee Garity; and
WHEREAS, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone was the much-adored father of Cristin and Richard and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone was a reporter and editor at the Chicago Tribune for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone served as Managing Editor from 1982 to 1995 and as Associate Editor from 1995 to 2001; and
WHEREAS, As Political Editor for the newspaper, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone covered gubernatorial and mayoral races and every national political convention for three decades; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Chicago Tribune, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone worked from 1961 to 1975 as a reporter for the Associated Press; and
WHEREAS, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone was a longtime Adjunct Professor for the University of Notre Dame where he taught journalism; and
WHEREAS, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone was the author of books, including Daley: Power and Presidential Politics, Chicago and the American Dream and Royko, A Life in Print; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of November, 2016, do hereby commemorate Francis Richard "Dick" Ciccone for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and/
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED/Th&t a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Fraricis Richard "Diclr Ciccone.
