RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE QUEEN OF ALL SAINTS FUTURE CITY TEAM ON A SUCCESSFUL 2021 COMPETITION

WHEREAS, The Queen of All Saints Future City Team, Artemis, placed third overall in the Illinois Regional Competition and received numerous special awards; and

WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of this joyous occasion by the Honorable Samantha Nugent, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and

 

WHEREAS, The Future City Competition is a project-based program where students in grades 6 through 8 are challenged to be innovative and creative to imagine, research, design, and build cities ofthe future; and

 

WHEREAS, The Future City Competition's 2021 challenge was "A Waste-Free Future" which asked teams to use the principles of a circular economy to design a futuristic, waste-free city; and

 

WHEREAS, The Queen of All Saints Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) teacher, Mrs. Kara Jackson, supported and mentored the students through the project and competition process; and

 

WHEREAS, The Queen of All Saints team, consisting of 8th grader Connolly Nugent, and 7th graders Joshua Almendras, Emily Fitzgerald, Alicia Hourihane, Anthony (Ty) Linn, Catherine Murphy, and Christopher Murphy, entered the competition; and

 

WHEREAS, The students worked together and learned how to use the engineering design process to.solve real-world problems, develop skills for effective teamwork, and practice communication and public speaking; and

WHEREAS, The team's hard work and dedication paid off with them placing third overall in the Illinois Regional Competition and receiving numerous awards including: the Most Innovative Pollution Mitigation and/or Recycled Material Feature award; the Water Resources award; the Best Use of High Rise Buildings award; the Outstanding Use of High Rise Buildings award; the Outstanding Use of Circular Economy Principles award; and the Innovation in Transportation award; and

WHEREAS, The 39th Ward is proud of team Artemis, Mrs. Kara Jackson and the Queen of All Saints community, now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of March, 2022, do hereby express pride in celebration of the Queen of All Saints Future City Team and extend a congratulations to the students and staff; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy ofthis resolution be prepared and presented to the students and staff members of the Queen of All Saints Future City Team.
