RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, With a mission of preparing today's students to become tomorrow's leaders, the Chicago Summer Business Institute offers business and financial literacy education, internships, and scholarships to exceptional Chicago high school students; and
WHEREAS, CSBI is a need-based program for high-achieving students from families with limited means, and affords many of its students their first exposure to the legal, banking, government services, and accounting fields. This program provides students with a glimpse of what is possible if they maintain good grades and graduate from college; and
WHEREAS, Each summer, CSBI provides highly selective, six-week paid internships to exceptional students who have the opportunity to work at banks, law firms, accounting firms, and other businesses in Chicago. These internships give students an opportunity to gain valuable insight into possible careers, and to promote the development of relationships with future mentors and employers; and
WHEREAS, In order to be selected as a CSBI intern, a student must be a resident of the City of Chicago attending a public, charter, parochial or private high school, meet family income guidelines, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and be a rising Junior or Senior at the start of the program. Students must also prepare and submit a resume, letters of recommendation, academic transcripts, and an essay, and then interview with members of CSBI's Board of Directors and business professionals; and
WHEREAS, Once selected, a CSBI intern works a 24-hour workweek, and also participates, in weekly classroom seminars and workshops to learn about financial markets, hear presentations from successful business executives, and participate in team building programs; and
WHEREAS, 2017 marks the 27th anniversary of CSBI, which has provided opportunities to more than 3,000 high school students; and
WHEREAS, This year, 78 extraordinarily qualified Chicago high school students will be completing the 2017 CSBI summer internship program; and
WHEREAS, All of Chicago is tremendously proud of the hard work of the participants in the CSBI summer internship program. They are the pride and future of Chicago; now, therefore,
