Resolution Honoring Alfonza Wysinger

 

 

WHEREAS. Alfonza Wysinger, a native Chicagoan, attended Chicago Public Schools and continued his education at Chicago State University and Calumet College of St. Joseph, where he attained a Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement Management; and

 

WHEREAS, During his years of service on the police department, First Deputy Superintendent Wysinger has worked in numerous units, including Patrol, Narcotics, Detective Division, and the DEA Task Force as an officer and supervisor; and

 

WHEREAS, As an alumnus of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety-School of Police and Command, First Deputy Superintendent Wysinger was voted Vice President of the one-hundred-and-sixty- fourth class; and

 

WHEREAS, He is a 2006 graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2014, he was selected to represent the Chicago Police Department at the National Counter-Terrorism Training Seminar in Israel, which is an intensive training course led by senior commanders ofthe Israel National Police and the Israel Defense Forces; and

 

WHEREAS, As First Deputy Superintendent, he is second in command of the Chicago Police Department and is responsible for overseeing all of its daily operations; and

 

WHEREAS, First Deputy Superintendent Wysinger believes that a strong work ethic, passion for the law enforcement mission, and a commitment to teamwork and community partnerships are paramount for achieving crime reduction and public safety goals, and he has demonstrated these characteristics in assignments with a direct impact on communities in Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2008, he was the recipient of the City of Chicago's highest honor, the Lambert Tree Award. He also received the Chicago Police Department's Award of Valor. These accolades were bestowed upon him for his distinguished acts of bravery in the protection of life by which he demonstrated in great degree the characteristics of selflessness, personal courage, and devotion to duty; and

 

WHEREAS, First Deputy Superintendent Wysinger is recognized locally and nationally for his distinguished service to his profession and his community. In 2008, he was recognized by The Chicago Westside Branch NAACP for Outstanding Public Servant of the Year; and

 

 

WHEREAS, In 2014, the State of Illinois, 98th General Assembly-House of Representatives acknowledged First Deputy Wysinger for his continued effort to help make a difference in the quality of life for the people of Chicago, offered by Representative La Shawn K. Ford; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2015, the U.S. House of Representatives Congressman Danny K. Davis awarded a special congressional recognition to First Deputy Wysinger for outstanding and invaluable service to the community; and

 

WHEAREAS, Alfonza announced his upcoming retirement after 29 years of devoted service in the Chicago Police Department;

 

AND WHEREAS, I, Willie B. Cochran, find Alfonza Wysinger's unwavering commitment to Chicago's public safety and his upcoming retirement a suitable occasion and an honor to recognize Alfonza Wysinger; and now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this 28th Day of October, 2015 AD, do hereby honor Mr. Alfonza Wysinger for his 29 years of extraordinary contributions to the public safety of Chicagoans;
