MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR REV. DR. ARCHIE B. MATLOCK, SR.
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Reverend Rev. Dr. Archie B. Matlock, Sr., an honorable citizen, beloved member of his community and an exceptional Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to his eternal rest on December 20, 2019;
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Stephanie D. Coleman, Alderman ofthe 16th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Archie B. Matlock, Sr. was born on October 12, 1932, in Camden, Mississippi, to the union of the late Jeff and Manda Matlock. He was the baby boy of twelve children. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Archie, Jr.; five sisters: Ineza Harris, Sophie Banks, Doris Risper, Jeffie Matlock, and Lena Scott; six brothers: James, Wesley, Emil, Diffie, Willie, and T.J. Matlock; his stepmother: Alice Luckett; five grandchildren: Jeffery Porter, Evtrece Matlock, Renata Matlock, and Zachariah and Zephaniah Matlock; and one great-grandchild: Karma Wezowicz; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Archie B. Matlock, Sr. touched the lives of all who knew him through his generosity, unconditional love and his spirit. He will be deeply missed but the memory of his character and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Archie B. Matlock, Sr. was a faithful and devoted member of every church he attended. Archie attended Sun Rise M.B. Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. AT. Tilly. He received his Deacon and Minister license while a member of Free Will M.B. Church, under the leadership of the late Dr. Lee H. Ivy. Rev. Matlock was a member of God Holy Ghost M.B. Church, under the leadership ofthe late Rev. Samuel Jones. In the year of 1980, the Jesus Christ Mission was born, with seventeen families in attendance. The late Rev. Elijah Sercy of #2 Mt. Sinai M.B. Church organized the Jesus Christ Holy M.B. Church. Rev. Matlock was motioned and seconded as pastor and remained faithful, even until death; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Archie B. Matlock, Sr. married the love of his life, Annie Mae, and to this union, five children were born: Runetta, Patricia, Janice, Archie, Jr., and Lathel. This union was sixty-eight years strong; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Archie B. Matlock, Sr. was blessed to have raised his sisters' two children: Jeanette Matlock and Debra Jones. They remained humble and faithful to him; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Archie B. Matlock, Sr. to cherish his memories and build upon his legacy, his loving wife: Evangelist Annie Matlock; his children: Evangelist Runetta (Leroy) Porter, Missionary Patricia, Missionary Janice, and Deacon Lathel (Patrice) Matlock; his sister: Mother Ida Mae Harris (Camden, Mississippi); one brother: Frank (Emma) Matlock (Carthage, Mississippi); brother-in-law: Reverend Shelby (Jewel) Stokes, Jr.; his grandchildren: Litanya (Jaton) Brown, Rev. Laroy (Tjuana) Porter IV, Tamara Wilson, Trinetta (James) McCombs, Nikisha Thomas, Pastor Archie (Tamara) Matlock III, Tanicka Sanders, Krystal Porter, Lizzie Thomas, Joseph Wilson, Taquila and Tiara Wilson, and Trinity, Mya, Zakiya, Tamiya, Kierra, Zhanai, Zion, and LaZariah Matlock; twenty-six great-grandchildren; a special friend in the ministry: Archbishop L. Hall; one goddaughter: Hope Sims; a host of many other relatives and friends; and most of all, his JESUS CHRIST HOLY M.B. CHURCH FAMILY; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifteenth day of January, 2020 do hereby express our sincere sorrow upon the passing of Rev. Dr. Archie B. Matlock, Sr. and extend our deepest condolences to his family and all the many friends whose lives he has touched; and
