MEMORIAL RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE OF MERCEDES WILLIAMS

WHEREAS, Mercedes Williams, beloved mother,.grandmother, great grandmother, arid great-great grandmother, passed away on August 5, 2021; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of Mercedes' passing by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman of the 37th Ward; and

WHEREAS, Mercedes was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 13, 1935 to Reba and Olden Caver, and she was the second of four children; and

WHEREAS, Mercedes accepted Christ at an early age and received her education from Chicago Public Schools Oakland Elementary and Dusable High School; and

 

WHEREAS, Mercedes married Frank (Rico) Williams, and to their union five children were born: Raymond, Jacgueline, Yvette, Janice, and Dion Yancy; and

WHEREAS, Before retiring from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Mercedes worked forthe Museum of Science and Industry and Michael Reese H6spital;!a!^r

 

WHEREAS, Any occasion which brought family together brought Mercedes so much joy and laughter; "Granny", as she was affectionately called by everyone, loved her family, had an affectionate smile that could light up any room, and loved to dress to impress; and

WHEREAS, Dancing, cooking, and joking with her family were among Mercedes' favorite activities; she loved red roses and her family knew to shower* her with them; and

WHEREAS, Mercedes is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Gladys, Jennette, and
David; husband, Frank; and her son, Raymond; Mercedes leaves to cherish her memory, four
daughters, Jacqueline, Yvette (Thomas), Janice, and Dion Yancy; sixteen grandchildren;
eighteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends; special niece,; Diah^ and
Debra Mitchell; lifetime friend, Luesther Chapman, and a very special friend, Diane Larry-Brent;

WHEREAS, Mercedes will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fourteenth day of October, 2021, do hereby extend our most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mercedes Williams; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolutionJae prepared and presented to the family of Mercedes Williams as a sign of our honor and respect/ ''i~~;:~->N
