RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Alliance of Hispanic Law Enforcement (AHLE) is a not-for-profit organization recognized by the Chicago Police Department. Founded in 2009, this organization was created in principle to place the needs of its members, mostly Chicago Police officers, in the upmost regard while rejecting outside influences that would interfere with this principle; and,
WHEREAS, As a not-for-profit organization, the AHLE fulfills its obligation of ensuring that proceeds from fundraising and donations, are used to either pay in whole or in part the costs of training for its members. The AHLE was founded by current and retired law enforcement officers who understand the need for training in order to enhance the much needed skillsets that are necessary for a career in law enforcement; and,
WHEREAS, The founding members, all of Hispanic heritage, understood the potential consequences resulting from a lack of Hispanic representation within law enforcement. As an organization that operates in one of the most diverse cities and police departments in America, the AHLE also has a diverse membership representing a long range of different factions. Diversity is one ofthe cornerstones ofthe AHLE and this inclusiveness has resulted in the sharp growth of its membership; and,
WHEREAS, The diversity of its membership is a reflection of the various City of Chicago neighborhoods that they live and serve in. The AHLE has participated in various fundraising events within these areas; and,
WHEREAS, Aside from fundraising in the community, the AHLE has hosted and participated in raising money for officers and their families when a death or injury occurs. The aftermath of such a traumatic event includes a deceased or injured officer's family incurring financial hardships. Additionally, the AHLE has hosted food and toy drives for impoverished families during the holiday season; and,
WHEREAS, Presently the AHLE has 14 board members (the board), all full-time members ofthe Chicago Police Department. Board members continuously serve as mentors and have also provided promotional tutorials to hundreds of current and former members. This sacrifice is seen by many and has helped legitimize the AHLE as an organization that authentically puts the needs of its members first; and, now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this 23rd day of November 2020 A.D., do hereby commemorate the Alliance of Hispanic Law Enforcement on their achievements; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the Alliance of Hispanic Law Enforcement.
