RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING DEVRY ON THE GRAND OPENING OF THEIR NEW FACILITY FOR DEVRY UNIVERSITY AND CHAMBERLAIN COLLEGE OF NURSING
WHEREAS, DeVry is a global provider of educational services and the parent organization of Advanced Academics, American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, Becker Professional Education, Carrington College, Carrington College California, Chamberlain College of Nursing, DeVry Brasil, DeVry University, Ross University School of Medicine and Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. These institutions offer a wide array of programs in business, healthcare, technology, accounting and finance; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1931, DeVry University is one of the largest, private-sector universities in North America, with 10 locations in the Chicagoland area, over 95 in the United States; and
WHEREAS, For over 120 years, Chamberlain College of Nursing has been at the forefront of excellence in nursing education. Chamberlain is increasing access to nursing education nationwide with campuses offering the three year Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program and flexible online programs like the RN to BSN option, Master of Science in Nursing degree program, Doctor of Nursing Practice degree program and Graduate Certificates; and
WHEREAS, DeVry University Advantage Academy was launched in Chicago in 2004, in partnership with then CEO of Chicago Public Schools and current Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan. DeVry University Advantage Academy is a dual-enrollment, dual-degree program contributing to national postsecondary success. With four locations across the country, the Advantage Academy provides a tuition-free program to underrepresented high school students to give them a head start on college and a
career; and
WHEREAS, DeVry University remains dedicated to empowering students to achieve their educational and career goals; and provides a career-focused approach to associate, baccalaureate and graduate degree programs in technology, healthcare technology, business and management; and
WHEREAS, DeVry made a $30 million investment to create an 87,000 square-foot facility, home to DeVry University, Chamberlain College of Nursing and DeVry University Advantage Academy, our dual degree program for Chicago Public Schools high school students at 3300 N. Campbell Avenue in the 47th Ward; and
WHEREAS, DeVry will host a dedication and official grand opening of their new facility on July 29, 2013; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 24lh Day of July, 2013 AD, do hereby salute DeVry for their continued commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities for students and congratulate them on the opening of their new facility.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That suitable copies of the resolution be prepared and presented to DeVry University and the Chamberlain Coljggt ufNuiaitig^_^^
