TRIBUTE TO ANNIE HAMILTON JONES
 
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted eternal peace to Annie Hamilton Jones, an outstanding citizen and member of her community, Saturday January 12, 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, On the family farm in Greensboro, Alabama, the Reverend Robert and Annie Hamilton became the loving parents of their daughter Annie, who was affectionately became known as "Nan". The Hamilton Family consisted of thirteen children, six girls and seven boys, and Annie was the last surviving child; and
 
WHEREAS, Annie accepted Christ as her savior at an early age as a member of the family-owned church, St. Mary Methodist Church. She received her education at Hale County Training School and in the early 1940's Annie moved to Chicago to live with her older sister Mattie (Dot) to start a new life. She married Theodore (Ted) Jones but the marriage ended in a divorce. Nan, a devout Christian, moved her membership to St. James Methodist Church and participated joyously with the congregation and also taught Sunday school; and
WHEREAS, Annie Hamilton Jones began her career as a seamstress and later became a crossing guard for the City of Chicago. She became interested in politics and moved into the 8th Ward where she became the Precinct Captain. The 8th Ward Regular Democratic Organization and the people of the community were grateful to have her as a resident. Annie, a dependable woman with great organizational skills helped organize the 8th Ward's Annual Dinner Dances that were held at the Martinique Restaurant in Evergreen Park; and
WHEREAS, Annie (Nan) Hamilton Jones leaving behind a family to mourn and to celebrate her life her grandson, Todd Wright; two great grandchildren, Temeah and T.J. Wright, Jr. and a hot of other relatives and many friends. Nan's niece and nephew Marie Jamison and Darnell Ratcliff (Linda) were diligent in providing tender long-term care to her. Nan's constant friend Gwendolyn Duncan Alexander never left her side until her death. Annie "Nan" was preceded in death by her daughter Ruth Ann (Bootsie) on January 6, 1997; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward has informed this august body of the passing of Annie (Nan) Hamilton Jones; now therefore
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 13th day of February 2013 AD, do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon learning of the passing of this remarkable citizen and extend our deepest condolence to her family and all those whose lives she touched.
