RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE CREATION OF HONORARY EULALIA "LALI" GARCIA WAY
WHEREAS, Eulalia Garcia was a beloved Chicagoan who passed away in 2020 and whose life deserves to be commemorated; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable George A. Cardenas, Alderman of the 12th Ward, has apprised this august body of this woman's virtue and remarkable accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Eulalia was born in 1958 in Degollado, Jalisco Mexico to a large family of 9 siblings and being the youngest daughter of Joaquin and Maria del Refugio Garcia; and
WHEREAS, Eulalia immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in the 1980s planting roots in the Little Village community, to pursue her American Dream; and
WHEREAS, Eulalia had an innovative mind always thinking about progress for her and her children by always keeping in mind the importance of education; and
WHEREAS, She put herself through school by attending Pal's International School of Beauty Culture and completed a degree in cosmetology graduating in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Eulalia worked in various beauty salons prior to opening her own business a beauty salon named Universal Unisex located at 2446 S Kedzie in the year 2000; and
WHEREAS, Eulalia had six children who she raised at the beauty salon and helped to put through college and graduate school always exemplifying the values of hard work, resilience and perseverance; and
WHEREAS, She was forever grateful to her friends and clients that supported her throughout her career for over 35 years where she contributed to the fabric of the business community by always lending a hand to all those that came into her business and encouraging them towards progress to pursue their personal goals; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of Eulalia Garcia and her family's significance to the City of Chicago, there will be established Eulalia "Lali" Garcia Way on S Kedzie Ave from W 25th Street to W 24th Street.
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this March 24, 2021, do hereby celebrate the memory of Eulalia Garcia, by establishing Eulalia "Lali" Garcia Way on S Kedzie Ave from W 25th Street to W 24th Street.
