MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Leatha Beatrice Crumble "Granny", most beloved citizen to her eternal reward, March 21, 2014; and
 
WHEREAS, This august body has been informed of her passing by the Honorable Deborah L. Graham, Alderman of the 29th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Bom on July 5, 1937 in Minter City, Mississippi. Leatha was the seventh of ten children bom to Will Lewis and Cora Bridges. Leatha's parents, seven siblings, one grandson (Anton Lewis) and one great granddaughter (Tondalaya Stapleton) all preceded her in death; and
WHEREAS, Leatha attended school in Jonestown, Mississippi where she graduated from high school; and
WHEREAS, God blessed Leatha with one child, Dora Lewis. Leatha later met and married her husband Alonzo "Jim" Crumble who preceded her in death; and
WHEREAS, In 1959, Leatha moved to Chicago, Illinois where she attended Malcolm X College. She was employed at Hall Printing Company in the early 1960's. Later in the 1960's she was offered a position at Echo as head foreman where she retired in 1986; and
WHEREAS, Leatha confessed her love for Christ and faithfully attended Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. Leatha served the church in many ways including: the senior usher board, singing in the choir, she worked in the culinary department and was on the Mother's board; and
WHEREAS, Leatha leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter Dora Lewis of Savannah, GA; 5 grandchildren Thomas (Tanya) Lewis Sr. of Lilburn, GA, Aswad (Millizza) Bryant of Chicago, IL, Carlos Lewis of Danville, IL, Terrence Lewis of Lincoln, IL & Itecha Lewis of Chicago, IL; 16 greatgrandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters Pearl Ervin of Bellwood, IL and Clara Lewis of Chicago, IL and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends as well as the Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church family. She also leaves the memory of her love to her special friends Diane Walls, Minnie Grant, Undean Brown, Mae Johnson, Bessie Walker & Jean Pumell: and
WHEREAS, A cherished friend and supportive family member to all, Leatha "Granny" will be deeply missed but the remembrance of her character, skill and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifth of November, 2014 A.D., do hereby commemorate Leatha Beatrice Crumble for her many lifetime contributions and do hereby extend to her family and many friends our sincere condolences.
 
Be It Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Leatha Beatrice Crumble.
