MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, Latonia Monix, the cherished daughter of Isabella Monix and Annize Simmons, was called by Almighty God from life to eternity on September 16, 2014, at the age of 45; and
 
WHEREAS, the City Council has been informed of Ms. Monix's untimely passing by the Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Alderman of the 34th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Chicago, Latonia Monix graduated from Donoghue Elementary School and Wendell Phillips High School, and went on to receive her Associate's Degree from Catherine College in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, having given her life to Christ at an early age, Latonia Monix became a steadfast and devoted member of Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, sharing prayer and worship with her community for a number of years; and
WHEREAS, in every aspect of her life, Latonia Monix found her greatest joy in sharing experiences with others by sponsoring casino trips and sharing card games and bingo with friends - all of which created opportunities for ongoing social ties; and
WHEREAS, Latonia Monix was a dearly loved mother of three children: DeMarco Wash, Deja Monique Stephens and Gregory Stephens, all of whom survive her; and
WHEREAS, Latonia Monix is also survived by her parents, Isabella Monix and Annize Simmons; three grandchildren: DeMilah Wash, DeMaria Wash and Jaydah Gonnigan; three brothers: Jerry (Lottie) Monix; Anthony Monix and Kevin Monis; a sister, Andrea Dogan; a half-sister, Erica Simmons; her fiance and loving companion, Michael McGown; her cousin, Sandra Jones-Austin, who was more like a sister; a special sister-in-law, Linda Sanders; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and numerous friends; and
WHEREAS, although her passing creates an obvious void, it is appropriate to cherish the many memories she created among all those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council ofthe City of Chicago^gathered here this eighth day of October, 2014 A.D., do hereby extend our most heartfelt condolences to,.the family and friends of Latonia Michelle Monix as we join her many loved ones in mourning hehpassing, and we hereby honor her life and memory. *
