WHEREAS, On June 22, 2015, the Noble Network of Charter Schools was named the winner of the 2015 Broad Prize for Public Charter Schools and will receive $250,000 to support college-readiness for their students; and
WHEREAS, this esteemed body has been appraised of this accomplishment by the Honorable Emma Mitts, Alderman ofthe 37th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Noble was one of three finalists selected by a ten-person review board, and was selected because of the significant achievements and accomplishments of their students. The $250,000 gift will benefit the Noble college program, which will serve 11,000 current students and thousands of Noble graduates on the path to college graduation; and
WHEREAS, Noble is Chicago's largest and highest performing network of public high schools, with campuses in some of the city's highest need communities, serving a population of 89 percent low-income and 98 percent minority; and
WHEREAS, with eight positions on the top ten list of open enrollment public schools in Chicago, more than 90% of Noble Network graduates matriculated to college in 2015; and
WHEREAS, with thousands of alumni in college, Noble offers personalized support for alumni for six years after graduation, and all campuses have an alumni coordinator to support graduates during the transition to and challenges of college; and
WHEREAS, it is through the hard work and dedication of the faculty, staff and students of the Noble Network of Charter Schools that such a prestigious award is bestowed upon the school network; and
WHEREAS, the funds will undoubtedly go on to change lives and provide opportunities for Chicago's brightest young people to earn a college education while being fully supported by a variety of support services provided by the school network; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of Chicago, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby extend our congratulations and best wishes to the Noble Network of Charter Schools.
