SALUTE TO WARRICK L. CARTER, PhD.
 
 
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Warrick. L. Carter, an outstanding educator and President of Columbia College Chicago, is retiring in August 2013; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Carter began his career in higher education as an assistant professor and director of bands at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. He received his doctorate in music education from Michigan State University; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Carter is an educator, composer and performer who became President of Columbia College Chicago in 2000. Under his leadership, the College's South Loop presence blossomed as square footage of campus classrooms, offices and residence halls doubled to 2.5 million square feet over the past 12 years. During his tenure, the College also reported a record high enrollment of 12,500 graduate and undergraduate students, up more than 25 percent from 1999 before Carter took office; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Carter successfully launched and oversaw Columbia College's $100 million comprehensive fundraising campaign in 2010, the first in its 120-year history. The College also completed its first new-construction building, the $21 million state-of-the-art Media Production Center which opened in 2010; and
 
WHEREAS, Under Dr. Carter's leadership, Columbia College Chicago has matured into a world class arts and media institution; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert W. Fioretti, Alderman of the 2nd Ward, has apprised this august body of Dr. Warrick L. Carter's noteworthy and prolific achievements throughout his tenure as President of Columbia College Chicago; now therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, assembled here this 26th Day of June, 2013 AD, do hereby salute Dr. Warrick L. Carter for his 13 years of leadership at Columbia College Chicago and fully recognize the void he is leaving behind will be most difficult to fill.
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Dr. Warrick L. Carter.
