A Resolution Commemorating the 100th Birthday of
Ruth Lee Weir Hodo
WHEREAS, Rutha Lee Weir was born to Fannie Conner and John Weir on August 9, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Rutha's grandmother "Fannie's Mother" was Cynthia Binion and her grandfather was Steven Conner. Her grandmother on her father's side was Mary Speight and her grandfather was Ike Weir; and
WHEREAS, Rutha's siblings were: Bobby, Mattie Lee, Bessie Mae, Laura and Hattie Mae Weir; and
WHEREAS, Rutha's nickname is Ruth and some people call her Bay; and
WHEREAS, Rutha accepted Christ at an early age and until today she is active in the Maryland Avenue Baptist Church. Rutha attended Dancy, Alabama grammar school; and
WHEREAS, Rutha was married September, 1937 to Rosevelt Hodo in Reform, Alabama and to this union of love a son was born; Hilmon Hodo. Rutha later moved to Chicago where she was a devoted home maker for many years while she raised their son until she decided on a working career at Goldblatts. Ruth was a valued employee for twenty-five years until she retired in 1981; and
WHEREAS, Her son Hilmon Hodo married Shirley Alleyne and to their loving union Rutha's three grandsons were born: David, Stephen and Mark Hodo; and
WHEREAS, These grandsons all very special in Rutha's eyes gave her great grandchildren: Jennifer (Stephen), Ezekiel (David), Jermar (David), Mahlik (Mark), Madison (Mark), and Miles (Mark); and they gave her great great grandchildren: Jordon (Mahlik), McKenzie (Mahlik), Lailaa (David) and Shayai (Jermar); and
WHEREAS, Rutha has been an enthusiastic member ofthe Maryland Avenue Baptist Church from 1957 until the present. Church affiliations: she is a Willing Worker, sings in the choir, and attends Sunday school; and
WHEREAS, Rutha is an excellent cook and on any given day and on holidays she is dedicated to loving and feeding all five generations of her family; and
WHEREAS, Rutha has one sister-in-law Essie Weir and a daughter-in-law Shirley Hodo. She also has a host of nieces and nephews: great, great great, and great great great, and special friends Sarah Gardner (Maudeen), Fannie Terry, Joyce Odem, Louise Moore and Juanita Douglas; and
WHEREAS, Rutha's hobbies are going to Simpson's Resort, and shopping and dining out with family and friends. It is Rutha's longing desire for her and her entire family to go to Las Vegas; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this 20th day of July, 2016 A.D., do hereby celebrate the 100th birthday of Rutha Lee Weir Hodo.
