Title: Tribute to late Anita LeShawn Owens

WHEREAS, on Sunday, February 20, 2011, the Almighty God, in his infinite wisdom called to his eternal paradise, Anita LaShawn Owens; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of this by 18th Ward Alderman Lona Lane; and
WHEREAS, Anita affectionately known as Shawn was born August 20, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Edward Lee and Gwendale Rae Owens; and
WHEREAS, Shawn obtained her early education in the Jefferson County school system in Fayette, MS where she was often recognized for her academic achievements. She later attended Graves Junior High School and Argo Community High School in Summit-Argo, IL; and
WHEREAS, She accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Antioch Baptist Church and sang in the Young Adult Choir. She loved the Lord and always enjoyed herself at church; and
WHEREAS, Shawn enjoyed interacting with people from various walks of life. She exuded exceptional customer service skills at various companies in the retail industry. Her bright personality and work ethic earned her an assistant manager position at Clothes Time in Countryside, IL; and
WHEREAS, Shawn was a sweet person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. She did things out of the kindness of her heart. She did not wait to be asked to do things; she saw what needed to be done and did it. She was very straight forward and always said what was on her mind. She adored her family, and went through great length to protect them. She loved and always wanted the best for her children; and
WHEREAS, Shawn was preceded in death by her sister, Tina Marche Owens; and god-mother, Anita Adger; she leaves behind to cherish her loving memory: five children, Gwendolyn, Reginald, Anthony, Christopher, and Jazmin; her parents, Edward and Gwen Owens; one brother, Rashad; one uncle, Derrick; three aunts, Valerie (Frank), Sharon (Steve), Melanie (Bobby); four first cousins, Sparkle, London, Nina, and Stephon; two precious cousins, Paris and Jayden; one great-uncle, Lemorse Mallory; three great-aunts, Thelma Archer, Jesse Wyrick and Gladys Hill; three god-sisters, Gayle Tucker, Charnelle Stevenson, and Cortina McDonald; one god-brother, Antwan Adger; a loving and devoted friend, Marvin Carter; and a host of other relatives and countless friends; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this thirteenth day of April, 2011 A.D do hereby express our sorrow on the passing of Anita LaShawn Owens and extend to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Anita LaShawn Owens' family.
