SALUTE TO THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PARLIAMENTARIANS - DISTRICT 4
WHEREAS, District 4 of the National Association of Parliamentarians, the oldest and largest professional non-profit association of parliamentarians in the world, will be holding its biennial convocation in suburban Alsip during the weekend of April 12 through 14, 2013; and
WHEREAS, District 4 of the National Association of Parliamentarians includes the States of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and the Canadian Province of Ontario; and
WHEREAS, With a membership of almost 4,000 parliamentarians throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad, the National Association of Parliamentarians was founded in 1930 with a mission to teaching, promoting, and disseminating the philosophy and principles underlying the rules that guide deliberative democratic assemblies. Its Professional Registered Parliamentarians are accredited only by meeting the highest level of proficiency in the practice of parliamentary procedure; and
WHEREAS, Parliamentarians issue opinions and instruction based upon "Robert's Rules of Order". Written by U.S. Army engineer Henry Martyn Robert and first published in 1876, Robert's Rules is acknowledged as the most widely used parliamentary authority in the United States. Currently in its 11th edition, this definitive work has been revised and updated several times, incorporating solutions for countless meeting situations and incorporating the societal and technological changes that have affected the way meetings are conducted; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Carrie M. Austin, Chairmen of the City Council Budget and Government Operations Committee and Alderman of the 34th Ward has apprised this august body of the convention of the National Association of Parliamentarians - District 4 that will be held in one of the suburbs of our city; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 13lh Day of February, 2013 AD, do hereby salute the attendees of the District 4 National Association of Parliamentarians convention and extend our very best wishes for a pleasant stay and successful meeting.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the National Association of Parliamentarians - District 4.
