RESOLUTION CONGRATULTLNG JOSEPH P. O'BRIEN ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT
WHEREAS, His family, friends and colleagues are gathering on Memorial Day, May 3o, 2011, to salute Chicago Fire Paramedic, Joseph P. O'Brien, as he retires from an outstanding career spanning three and one-half decades in service to the people of the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Hoff will recognize Joseph P. O'Brien's retirement during the Firefighters Annual Memorial Ceremony at Holy Family Church. A grand celebration will be held at his assigned firehouse at 56th and Narragansett; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong Chicago citizen, Joseph P. O'Brien has represented over the past thirty-five years the highest standards of upholding the safety and welfare of the public; and
WHEREAS, Joseph, the loving son of Michael and Mary O'Brien lived in the Chicago Lawn area community and attended St. Rita High School. He, his brothers, Michael (deceased) and William (deceased) and his sisters, Carolyn, Sharon, Peggy and Patricia were the product of loving parents, Michael and Mary Ann O'Brien. Joseph joined the United States Marine Corp, served his country proudly and received an Honorable Discharge; and
WHEREAS, Joseph O'Brien joined the Chicago Fire Department August 16, 1976 and during those years his performance met the highest standards of public service. By his example, Joseph epitomizes the highest standards of citizenship; and
WHEREAS, For the past fifteen years, Chicago Fire Paramedic Joseph P. O'Brien has been stationed at the Midway Firehouse and lastly at the 56* and Narragansett Firehouse in Chicago's great southwest community; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding family man, Joseph P. O'Brien and Rose his wife of 17 years, have raised and educated their two children, son Mathew and step-daughter Krystel in Chicago; he can now deservedly, spend quality time with his family and many friends; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City are cognizant of the selfless contributions of those many fine fire paramedics who, charged with the safety and welfare of others, perform their duties with dedication, skill and caring. Joseph P. O'Brien has been such a fire paramedic for 35 years; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here this 8th day of June, 2011 A.D., do hereby join in the tribute to Chicago Fire Paramedic Joseph P. O'Brien, and express our gratitude to him for 35 years of outstanding public service. We also extend to his family and many friends our deep sense of pride as well as our gratitude for his having been a part of our proud City.
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Retired Chicago Fire Paramedic Joseph P. O'Brien.
