WHEREAS, Chicago Public Schools offers students opportunities to take part in a wide variety of athletic and academic competitions to promote and test their athletic skills and intellectual development; and

 

WHEREAS, Many of our diverse, talented, and hard-working students have excelled in these competitions; and

 

WHEREAS, In the Class 2A IHSA Basketball Tournament, Orr High School students Greg Outlaw, Mike Taylor, Terrance Ford, Tyler Bullock, Shaun Harris, Sherif Kenney, William Thomas, Terry Williams III, Leontae Lilly, Semaj Jones, Lawrence Green, Marquell Crump, Tufuatae Williams, Robert Standord, Demarius Splunge, Dalatha Alderman, Terelle Wells, and Maqael Henderson won the state championship; and

 

WHEREAS, In the Class2A IHSA Girls Basketball Tournament, Marshall High School students Shamiyah Godfrey, Jalyn Jimenez, Brandi Hudson, Dashiera Butts, Danjanae James, Jayonna Smith, Niyah Zamudio, Roquesha Sims, Aaliyah Johnson, Tamarriyanna Levy, and Ashante Kizer won the state championship; and

 

WHEREAS, In the Class 2A IHSA girls tennis tournament, Whitney Young High School students Sophie Ishiwari and Isabel Kupustka won the doubles championship; and

 

WHEREAS, In the CPS High School Chess Championship, Taft High School student Brent Alonzo (board one), Whitney Young High School students Akhil Kalghatgi (board three), Deniz Gulecyuz (board four), Roman Ricardo (board six), Daniel Zhang (board seven), and Robert Bitunjac (board eight), and Walter Payton High School student Samuel Essex (board five) won 1st Place; and

 

WHEREAS, In the CPS K-8 Chess Championship, Skinner North student Alexander Oseledets won 1st Place in K-2, Decatur student Enhkjin Namuunbayar won 1st Place in K-4, Decatur Classical School student Christopher Sakaliyski won 1st Place in K-6, and Whitney Young Academic Center student Kim Gunn won 1st Place in K-8; and
