CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO MARY PEPE HALFACRE ON CELEBRATING HER
100TH BIRTHDAY
WHEREAS, Mary Pepe Halfacre will celebrate the joyous occasion of her 100th birthday on January 27, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Mary was born on January 27, 1920 in North Judson, Indiana to her parents, Maria and Andrew Pepe, Italian immigrants who passed through Ellis island before settling in Indiana; and
WHEREAS, Mary grew up on a grape farm with her four brothers and two sisters, picking, but more often eating, grapes for wine making; and
WHEREAS, After World War II, Mary and her sister moved to Little Italy, where Mary had her daughter, Donna, in 1945, which changed her life forever; and
WHEREAS, Living in the City allowed Mary to pursue her passion for the jewelry business, eventually becoming the voice and face of CD. Peacock's flagship store for 30 years before retiring; and
WHEREAS, After the birth of her grandson, Brent, in October, 1970, Mary became an avid sports fan, and Brent still visits Mary daily to say hello and make sure her TV is on for the next Cubs, Bulls, or Bears game; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Mary volunteered at her local church, cooking for weddings, baptisms and funerals, and ensuring every event was special and ever attendee felt at home; she became known for her delicious baked chicken sausage and peppers, and cheesecake, which were always cooked from scratch; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Mary moved back to Chicago from Mokena, Illinois and settled into the Streeterville condominium she resides in to this day; and
WHEREAS, Mary is active in the community, walking around the block three to four times a day with her light-blue walker she named "the Cadillac", soaking up the sun, and greeting and having thoughtful discussions with her neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Mary wakes up every day thankful for all the blessings she has received throughout her life, from her adoring family and her City, to her former light-blue 1955 Thunderbird and her walker, "Cadillac"; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this fifteenth day of January, 2020, do hereby congratulate Mary Pepe Halfacre on her 100th Birthday, and wish her continued success and happiness; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Mary Pepe Halfacre as a token of our esteem, gratitude, and respect—^
