RESOLUTION HONORING KATIE WILLIAMS-JOHNSON
WHEREAS, Katie Williams-Johnson, a longtime and widely admired resident of the Grand Boulevard Community, will celebrate the joyful occasion of her 80th Birthday on October 22, 2015;and
WHEREAS, This cause for celebration has been brought to the attention of The Chicago City Council by the Honorable William D. Burns, Alderman of the 4th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Katie Williams-Johnson was born October 22, 1935 in New Orleans, LA and moved to Chicago in 1945. She was educated at Drake Elementary School and Wendell Phillips High School where her singing talents were revealed; and
WHEREAS, Katie Williams-Johnson studied Music at Xavier University in New Orleans, LA and later attended Loop Junior College in Chicago. She began her working career at the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Chicago and retired from the United States Department of Agriculture National Finance Center in New Orleans, LA.; and
WHEREAS, Katie Williams-Johnson was a member of the Chicago based gospel singing group The Katie Davis Singers from 1965 to 1969 frequently appearing on the Jubilee Showcase Gospel Show televised in Chicago. In 1967 she participated in a talent contest at the Regal Theatre in Chicago where she came in third place and the Jackson Five came in first place; and
WHEREAS, When Katie Williams-Johnson moved back to Chicago in 1984 she became a member ofthe Burnside Community Baptist Church where she served in the Ministries: Elder Sister, Nursing Home Visitation, Prison Out Reach, and Jubilee Choir; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Katie Williams-Johnson has displayed a selfless dedication to her faith and her community; and
WHEREAS, Katie-Williams-Johnson was ordained as a Minister in 1989 at the Burnside Community Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership ofthe late Reverend Florezel L. Porter, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Whatever the need, Katie Williams-Johnson has always extended a helping hand to others, whether by feeding the homeless, assisting the elderly, speaking encouraging words, or planting flowers to help beautify the 4th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Katie Williams-Johnson is a familiar face in several churches around the United States where she gladly preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and
WHEREAS, Katie Williams-Johnson is married to Leroy Johnson, Jr. She loves to spend time with her 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
WHEREAS, The integrity, humility and dedication of Katie Williams-Johnson serves as an example to all; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the- Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of October, do hereby honor and congratulate Katie Williams-Johnson on the occasion of her 80th Birthday and her life in service ofthe people of the City of Chicago and the world; do hereby express our warmest and best wishes for her continued happiness and prosperity; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy ofthis resolution be presented to Katie Williams-Johnson and her family.
