RESOLUTION HONORING LEGACY LEADERS
WHEREAS, Legacy Leaders is a nonprofit organization from the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood offering in-school and after-school initiatives, annually impacting over 800 students living in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been informed of the organization's achievements by the Honorable Gilbert Villegas, Alderman of the 36th Ward; and
WHEREAS, since its inception in 2010, under the direction of President Everett Gutierrez, the organization has helped participants to succeed in high school, college, and future jobs; and
WHEREAS, Legacy Leaders provides a safe and supportive environment coupled with the highest standards, as students are taught valuable life skills, college skills, and career readiness principles; and
WHEREAS, Legacy Leaders has been able to connect with students from 21 high schools throughout Chicago and has served as a partner to move one high school off of academic probation; and
WHEREAS, Legacy Leaders encourages young people to change the conversation on violence and engages students in experiences that provide them hope for future employment opportunities and education through effective leadership training; and
WHEREAS, Legacy Leaders students are able to define their identity and develop excitement about their future. Active participation in leadership challenges encourages students to work through personal growth areas and put what they learn into action; and
WHEREAS, the organization has played a critical role in equipping young leaders with the skills and confidence necessary to be successful in the future; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this 20th day of July 2016, do hereby congratulate Legacy Leaders for their tremendous work throughout our city.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Legacy Leaders as a sign of our admiration and appreciation.
