Resolution

Whereas, Magda Krance will celebrate her 60 birthday on February 8, 2015; and

Whereas, Magda has been a long time resident ofthe 48^th Ward Margate Park neighborhood of Uptown since 1977, and married to Steve Leonard for 36 years, living on Gunnison St; and

Whereas, Magda began tirelessly working for the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Media Relations manager in April of 1992. She regularly commutes by bike along the lakefront. Before Lyric Opera, Magda worked as a freelance journalist here in Chicago with People Magazine, the New Times, the Washington Post and.others. Before that Magda was hired out of Medill School of Journalism before graduating as the associate editor of Marian Magazine, now Outside. She is a merciless copy editor, because she knows how to write; and

Whereas, in 1990, Magda gave birth to Casimir, a big boy, who now lives Logan Square and works as a licensed massage therapist. Magda's Polish mother Felicia lived out her active life at the Admiral leaving us in 1993; and

Whereas, Magda is known for how she knows everyone in the media and music fields. She has handled the biggest names in opera for 22 years. People remember and love Magda. She connects with people easily and connects people to others. She doesn't need 6 degrees of separation just 2. It's hard for Magda not to know someone when out, be it at the theatres or music venues in town which loves to attend or in foreign airports, anywhere.; and

Whereas, Magda not only advances truly one ofthe world's best opera houses but she sings too! On and off for 20 years Magda has sung professionally with the excellent madrigal group, Bella Voce; and

 

Now, Therefore, I, Harry Osterman, Alderman of the 48^th Ward, hereby ask that the 60^th birthday of Magda Krance be recognized by the City of Chicago. May she continue to celebrate more years of her active family and cultural life in the City of Chicago.
